| Jet Air Freight ranking among the top twenty freight companies in India, as a business was started by my father in the year 1986, says Richard Theknath, General Manager of the company. In an interview with Media Today Group, he talks about his company at present and its expansion plans: Please tell us about your company. Jet Air Freight is concentrating more on perishable cargo like meat, fish, cut flowers, tissue culture and day old chicks. Our company is also trying to concentrate on imports. We have a sea division that takes care of perishable sea business as well as Rifa container. Jet Air which is also into travel business is conducted by our Thomas Cook franchise at Borivali in Mumbai. Our office at Borivali is an independent one and caters to the need of the travelers as well as other customers. My father before he started this company in his younger days used to work with other freight companies. It was then that he decided to sit down for the C.H.A. exam. This exam is conducted for custom house agents. After clearing this exam he decided to start his own business. |

| I joined the company in the year 1997. Our company has several branches in Delhi, Calicut, Cochin, Bangalore and Trivandrum. Besides these we are also planning to open more such branches. Tell us about the freight industry at present Going by the present economic condition, it is not a good time for freight agents. Not able to cope up with the increasing cost, agents are closing down their businesses. The market downfall has affected our business also but not to the limit as it has affected airlines and other businesses. We still are handling a freight of 100 tonnes on a daily basis. But this is only for Mumbai. There is a competition in the market on who is going to fare better despite this economic slowdown also. What future do you foresee for this business? In the current scenario the freight industry is down sizing on its employees. New multinational companies which have come in are doing better in comparison to already existing companies. Company like ours will have to pull up our socks to compete with the new We are planning to expand our business in the future. Jet Air Freight already having its offices in Calicut, Delhi, Cochin, Bangalore and Trivandrum, is also planning to open its branches in Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Nagpur.
